SHSM Workshops

Let our Halls become your classrooms! SHSM workshops at Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall allow students to explore the venues, watch a private performance or rehearsal, and participate in workshops exploring industry-related careers. Past certifications have included Event Management, Publicity, Songwriting, Performance, Video Game Music, and Composing with iPads.

Join arts and culture professionals at Roy Thomson Hall for career exploration and music. Students will participate in one of two certification workshops and are invited to return in the evening for an educational workshop followed by a performance by blues legend Buddy Guy.

Production – Doug McKendrick, Director of Production, The Corporation of Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall
Whether it’s producing a single performance or orchestrating the set up for an international film festival, what happens before the curtains go up? Hear from Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall’s Director of Production, Doug McKendrick, in this interactive workshop as he recounts his personal journey through the arts world, and the complex and always challenging world of producing at a renowned arts venue.

Purpose-Rooted Marketing & Branding – Sun, Voice of Purpose
In this workshop, Sun, Artist Educator and Director of Voice of Purpose, will explore the tools every artist needs to ground in their true inner purpose and communicate it to their audience, colleagues, and perspective employers. How can you reflect your personal values and purpose in your message and the art you create?

Evening Performance: Buddy Guy
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Kennedy Center Honoree, Presidential National Medal of Arts recipient, eight-time Grammy Award-winner – including a 2015 Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award – and pioneer of Chicago’s fabled West Side sound continues to thrill audiences with his live concerts and latest release, The Blues Is Alive and Well. At 83 years young, the legendary performer is doing exactly as the title implies. The album showcases his raw and unadulterated sound, which you can be sure to hear live at Roy Thomson Hall. Tickets to Buddy Guy are provided as part of The Corporation of Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall’s Share the Music program.

Students must be accompanied and supervised by a teacher.
