Call & Response

Explore your creativity, gain new skills, and acquire volunteer hours with Call & Response!

Call & Response is a series of 10 weekly workshops for high school students. In this program, students will learn about music and other art forms; gain new leadership and communication skills; talk to professional artists and Hall staff; and make new friends. Call & Response participants are eligible to apply to join the Youth Musician Commission (YMC), our youth council, and continue to volunteer at the Halls. No previous experience is required.

We are now accepting applications for the Spring 2024 session of Call & Response! Call & Response will take place at the Allied Music Centre at Massey Hall. The program will run weekly on Wednesdays from 4:30pm – 6:30pm, beginning on March 6th and ending on May 15th. This year’s workshop topics include songwriting, music production, ukulele, drumming, hip-hop, opera and more.

What the Students have to say about their experience:

"All the workshops were really fun and exciting. It was nice to meet new people, learn about individuals' jobs, learn new things, and have fun. I do not have one singular favourite part because I loved all of the Call &Response, and I am so happy that I had the opportunity to participate."
Emma (grade 11)

"My favourite part is always hearing what other people have to say and sharing ideas with each other. I'm really going to miss seeing everyone each week."
Aliyah (grade 11)

"My favorite part of Call & Response that day was getting out of my bubble and exploring new activities that I haven't done before myself and with others. I liked how the host challenged us to do activities that involve our strong thinking, creativity, body, voice, and our skills. It has definitely made a strong impact in our community to be more engaged and motivated within ourselves and as a group."
Leanne (grade 11)
